Hello! My name is Lisa Ellison and I'm a lifelong native of Summers County in West Virginia. I'm fascinated with rocks and fossils as a hobby. I've found many interesting specimens of Lepidodendron that are so common in regional coalfields here. However, I found this one a couple of years ago and have been trying to identify it (hence finding your email addresses) and am wondering if it is a cordaite (?). I've jokingly referred to it as "a petrified elephant trunk"; upon initial glance, that's what comes to mind. It's almost 8" long and is 4" in circumference. I'm guessing it's shale in composition. I found it in a Wyoming County (WV) coal field.
